24hr Nursing
The Hospital provides dedicated Veterinary and Nursing care for your pet, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

24hr Nursing
Pets are hospitalised in purpose-built wards, all equipped with stainless steel kennels and plenty of soft bedding. Hygiene is of the utmost importance, with the kennels and bedding being thoroughly disinfected daily. Cat and dog wards are separate, to keep feline stress levels to a minimum, whilst dog ward includes spacious, walk-in kennels to make sure even the largest of breeds are kept comfortable during their stay. We also boast a separate isolation ward to treat cases that are suspected of having contagious infections that could be a risk to other hospitalised patients. All ward temperatures are kept at a constant with heating and air conditioning as required.
Our wonderful RCVS trained nursing team, as well as our student nurses and animal care assistants, are devoted to the well-being of our patients and will often go above and beyond to make sure they are comfortable. From taking on extra night shifts, making sure the night nurses have all the support they need, intensively nursing a single patient all through the day and night to, finally, seeing the joy of critically ill patients being returned to their owners in good health at the end of a stay.
No matter what your pet needs; whether it be emergency treatment, bed changes, a toilet break or even just some company at 3.00am in the morning, we have it covered. Should your pet have to be hospitalised at Connaught House Veterinary Hospital you can be free from worry knowing we are committed to providing the highest level of care to all of our patients.

Dental Hygiene
Dental hygiene is one of the most important aspects of caring for your pet.

✔ Shifnal
Dental Hygiene
There are many steps to help prevent this happening to your pet. Looking properly after your pet’s teeth requires daily brushing, a healthy diet, and exercise (chewing on hard food). Mouth wash, drops and supplements are also a good way of keeping your pet’s teeth in good condition. This is all simple to do and can be carried out at home.
Regular check-ups are important too. Should it be required, we can scale and polish teeth, and extract where necessary, under a general anaesthetic.
We are now running nurse dental hygiene clinics – a routine dental check is recommended every 3 – 6 months to discuss any oral care issues. This check can be carried out free of charge by one of our nurses (by appointment only).

ECG
Cardiac arrhythmias are abnormal heart rhythms, which are classified based on the area of the heart in which they originate.
✔ Wolverhampton
✔ Kingswinford
✔ Shifnal
ECG
They originate either in the upper chambers of the heart, the lower chambers of the heart, the area of the heart responsible for creating each heart beat (the sinoatrial [SA] node), or the system within the heart responsible for conducting electrical impulses throughout the heart.
Each heartbeat originates as an electrical signal generated in the SA node, which is in the upper right chamber of the heart. The electrical impulse then travels through the upper chambers of the heart (atria) to an intermediate station (the atrioventricular node), and finally to the lower heart chambers (ventricles). Series of these electrical impulses are responsible for the typical waveform seen on an electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) and bring about the rhythmic mechanical contractions of the heart.
An ECG can pick up an unusually fast heart rates (tachycardia), unusually slow heart rates (bradycardia) and arrhythmias.

Endoscopy
Endoscopy allows a visual examination of internal organs and body parts without invasive exploratory surgery with the use of a long thing tube with a camera inside (an endoscope).
✔ Wolverhampton
Endoscopy
We frequently use endoscopy to locate and retrieve foreign bodies, such as grass seeds in ear canals or blades of grass lodged in the nasal cavity. It can also be used to see inside the gut or throat.
The technique allows for visualization of the lining of the digestive system and for taking samples of the lining of these organs.

Laser Therapy
Laser therapy harnesses the power of light to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, providing your pets with a safe and drug-free alternative to traditional treatments. By delivering targeted laser energy to specific areas, this advanced therapy encourages cellular regeneration, reduces inflammation, and alleviates pain, promoting a rapid recovery and enhanced well-being for your four-legged friends.
Whether your pet is experiencing joint and mobility issues, recovering from surgery, suffering from chronic pain, or even undergoing rehabilitation, laser therapy can make a remarkable difference in their quality of life. Our skilled and compassionate veterinary team will assess your pet’s specific condition, tailoring a personalized laser treatment plan to address their unique needs effectively.
The benefits of laser therapy are extensive, as it is a gentle and non-invasive procedure suitable for animals of all ages, breeds, and sizes. With no known side effects, this safe treatment option eliminates the need for medications that may carry unwanted risks or adverse reactions. Furthermore, it can serve as a complementary therapy to traditional treatments, enhancing their effectiveness and reducing recovery time. Even though your pet may show signs of improvement after only one visit, we typically recommend a series of treatments because the effects are cumulative. Depending on the condition of the pet, treatment plans will vary and may span a three-to-six-week period. Most chronic conditions require treatments twice weekly for the first six sessions then weekly thereafter.
Here at Connaught House Veterinary Hospital, we have witnessed the positive outcomes of laser therapy on countless animals, helping them to regain mobility, minimise pain, and enjoy an improved quality of life overall. Witness the transformative power of modern veterinary care through laser therapy and let us be your trusted partner in ensuring your pets’ optimal health and happiness.

Microchipping
Around 250,000 animals go missing each and every year, microchipping these animals significantly increases the chances of your lost pet finding its way home to you safely.

✔ Codsall
Microchipping
Once your pet is microchipped it is important to remember to update details when any changes are made, e.g. moving to a new house, or changing telephone number.
Since April 2016 it is a legal requirement that all dogs must be microchipped before they are 8 weeks
old. In June 2024 it is becoming a legal requirement to microchip your cat before they are 20 weeks old.
At Connaught House you can book an appointment with a vet or a nurse to have your pet microchipped. The simple procedure only takes a minute, we will then register the chip for you and supply you with the details of the company should you need to make any changes.
If you acquire a new pet and are not sure if he/she is microchipped already then we can scan them free of charge to find the microchip and provide you with the details of the company the chip is registered to so you can update them. You can never be too careful, so we strongly advise you do this immediately after the animal has been transferred to your care.
Legally a dog is also required to wear a collar and an identity tag in public places, which must detail the owners name, and address including postcode. This applies whether the dog is on a lead or not.

Tonometry
Glaucoma is caused by the buildup of fluid within the eye. Abnormally high pressure can damage the optic nerve, leading to vision loss.
Tonometry is also useful for identifying low IOP, which may occur with anterior uveitis (inflammation within the eye) or following intraocular surgery. Low IOP is also associated with dehydration.

Ultrasound
We have two fully equipped ultrasound machines at the hospital for a variety of applications, including abdominal imaging and echocardiography.

Ultrasound
In echocardiography, the heart is examined in detail to evaluate structure and function. This includes assessing the size and shape of the chambers and valves, evaluating blood flow through the heart, and measuring the characteristics of each heartbeat. Full echocardiography reports including images are provided as standard.
Ultrasound is a highly versatile imaging modality and can be used for a variety of applications beyond those listed above, including ocular ultrasound (assessing the eyes), musculoskeletal ultrasound (assessing the muscles/soft tissues) and ultrasound-guided sampling (sampling internal structures via a needle).
