Senior Cat Wellness Checks – Keeping Older Cats Happy and Healthy
As cats get older, their needs change. Subtle signs of illness or discomfort can often go unnoticed, which is why regular health checks are so important. Our Senior Cat Wellness Check is designed to give you peace of mind and help your cat enjoy their golden years in comfort and good health.
This comprehensive 45-minute appointment is carried out by one of our experienced vets at our Wolverhampton hospital and includes a full head-to-tail health assessment alongside detailed diagnostic testing.
What’s Included in the Senior Cat Wellness Check
Your cat’s appointment includes:
🐾 45-minute veterinary consultation – a relaxed and unhurried appointment so we can get a complete picture of your cat’s health.
🐾 Comprehensive physical examination – assessing overall condition, coat, skin, and body systems.
🐾 Dental check – looking for signs of dental disease, gingivitis, or tooth pain.
🐾 Weight check – monitoring for healthy weight and body condition.
🐾 Ophthalmic examination – checking the eyes for age-related changes or disease.
🐾 Blood tests including:
– Liver and kidney function

🐾 Blood pressure measurement – high blood pressure is common in older cats and often has no outward signs.
🐾 Urine analysis – providing additional information about kidney health and other internal conditions. We’ll supply special non-absorbent cat litter for you to collect a sample at home ahead of the appointment.

Following the appointment, you’ll receive a follow-up telephone consultation to discuss your cat’s blood test results and any next steps for their care.
Why Senior Wellness Checks Matter
Cats are experts at hiding signs of illness. Regular senior health checks allow us to spot changes early – often before they become serious.
Early detection means we can manage age-related conditions such as kidney disease, thyroid problems, high blood pressure, and arthritis much more effectively, helping your cat stay comfortable and active for longer.

Frequently Asked Questions
How old is a “senior” cat?
Cats are generally considered senior from around 7–8 years old, although some breeds may age more slowly. We recommend starting annual wellness checks from this age onwards.
Will my cat need to be fasted before the appointment?
Yes. Cats will need to be fasted for around 8 hours before their Senior Wellness Check to ensure the most accurate blood test results. Fresh water should still be available at all times.
How are the blood and urine samples taken?
Blood samples are taken gently by our experienced veterinary team during your cat’s appointment.
For urine testing, we’ll provide you with special non-absorbent cat litter ahead of your visit so you can collect a sample at home. This helps reduce stress for your cat and ensures we have everything needed for analysis.
How long will it take to get the results?
Results are usually available within 24 hours. We’ll arrange a follow-up phone consultation with your vet to explain the findings and any recommendations.
What happens if something abnormal is found?
If any issues are detected, your vet will discuss the results with you and advise on the next steps — whether that’s treatment, monitoring, or further tests. The goal is always early, effective intervention.
Can I use my Pet Health Plan discount?
Yes — members receive 5% off the Senior Cat Wellness Check price.
